Softball Clips La Roche in Non-Conference Twin Bill

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College softball team swept La Roche (Pa.) University in a non-conference doubleheader by final scores of 11-2 and 8-2 at Bison Field. 

Game 1
At the Plate
  • Senior All-PAC third baseman Emma Jackson (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI
  • Sophomore Academic All-PAC second baseman Caitlin O'Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) also drove in three runs for the Bison and finished with two hits
  • Senior All-PAC right-hander Katelyn Ziems (Bowling Green, Ohio) hit 2-for-3 with three RBI on the day including a two-run walk-off home run to secure the run-rule victory
  • Senior Academic All-PAC right fielder Trista Morris (Woodsfield, Ohio/Monroe Central) stayed hot at the dish going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a steal
  • Sophomore All-PAC catcher Olivia Kidd (Akron, Ohio/Mogadore) also notched two hits including a double and scored two runs
  • Sophomore center fielder Trinity Edge (Franklin, Pa.) had a base hit and got in a rundown long enough for the first Bethany run to score 
In the Circle
  • Ziems went the distance by holding the Redhawks to two runs on five hits while striking out two batters in her six-inning victory
Game 2
At the Plate
  • Sophomore left fielder Amber Dedmon (Canton, Ohio/Canton South) finished with a statline of three hits with one double, three runs scored, two stolen bases, and one RBI
  • Senior All-PAC shortstop Brooke Markland (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) collected two RBI thanks to a sixth-inning homer and finished with two hits
  • Freshman first baseman Jenna Nolan (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) also went 2-for-4 with an RBI single
  • Jackson added two more hits to her big day against La Roche
  • Ziems and O'Farrell also recorded two hits out of their four at-bats
  • Kidd lifted a sac fly to left to help extend the Green and White lead
In the Circle
  • Freshman right-hander Shelby Crow (Triadelphia, W.Va./John Marshall) got her first career start where she shut down the Redhawks by striking out five and allowing only one run on three hits through five innings which included three no-hit frames to pick up her first collegiate win
  • Sophomore right-hander Madisyn Zigarovich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) slammed the door against La Roche in the final two innings where she had a strikeout and the only blemish was a solo shot from one of her seven batters faced
The Bison are back in action Wednesday, April 22 as they host a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader against Geneva (Pa.) College beginning at 3 p.m. at Bison Field.
