Oct. 11 - ELMHURST, Ill. - The Bethany College volleyball team (16-9, 9-1 PAC) dropped a pair of matches on the second day of the Elmhurst College Invitational. The Bison fell to host Elmhurst in four sets, before falling to St. Mary's, 3-1.
In game one, Bethany was unable to get the victory over Elmhurst, falling in four sets (25-15, 26-24, 25-23, 26-24).
The Bison offense was led by the sophomore duo of Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio /West Muskingum) and Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio /West Muskingum). Dakota McKenzie finished with 17 kills, while Dylana McKenzie collected 15. Junior setter Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio /Madison Mansfield) also played well registering 40 assists.
Defensively, Bethany was led by junior Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and Lauber. Mouch tallied a team-high 19 digs, while Lauber supplied 10. Sophomore Alexis Castro (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) also did well, totaling four blocks.
Game two against St. Mary's, saw the Bison fall in four sets once again (25-17, 19-25, 22-25, 18-25).
The McKenzie twins were at it once again on the offensive end, as Dylana McKenzie tallied 14 kills and Dakota McKenzie collected 10. Lauber flashed her passing ability as she recorded 30 assists.
The defense was led by senior Kelly Becquet (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) and Lauber. Becquet had a team-high eight digs, while Lauber also notched eight. Sophomore Arielle Sanders (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) was sharp around the net, recording four blocks.
The Bison will hit the courts next on Tuesday, Oct. 14 as they travel to the Point Park University Tri-Match. Their first match will come against Presidents' Athletic Conference foe, Chatham University. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
