Volleyball Earns Split In Two-Game Trip to Pittsburgh

Oct. 14 - PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Bethany College volleyball team (17-10, 10-1 PAC) visited two schools in one day, traveling to Point Park University and Chatham University on Tuesday. The Bison dropped a 3-1 decision to Point Park before defeating Chatham, 3-0, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup.

The Bison dropped the first contest to the Pioneers, 3-1. After falling in game one, 25-13, the Bison rebounded to take game two by a 25-22 score. Games three and four were played closely, but Point Park walked away with a 26-24 win in game three. They then defeated Bethany in game four, notching a 25-22 win and the match, 3-1. 

Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) led the way in the match with a 14-kill effort. The performance marked the ninth time in the team's last 12 games that McKenzie has notched at least 10 kills in a match. Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) finished the contest with 10 kills while Sadie Davenport (Newark, Ohio/Lakewood) posted eight. Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Mansfield) dished the ball nicely, finishing with 39 assists.

Defensively, Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) totaled 14 digs while Samantha Katchen (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary Grove) finished with 13.

Following the contest with Point Park, the Bison traveled to Chatham for a conference contest with the Cougars. They rolled to a three-set victory, taking the match by scores of 25-4, 25-6, 25-11.

In the straight-set sweep, the Bison offense was led by Rebecca Flathers (Granville, Ohio/Granville) and Arielle Sanders (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights). Flathers notched a season-best nine kills while committing zero errors. Sanders totaled eight kills in the victory.

Davenport notched six kills while Dakota McKenzie and Katchen finished with five-kills, each. Allie Powell (Indianapolis, Ind. /Lawrence Central) got the start at setter and finished with 34 assists. The Green & White finished with 19 service aces in the win led by Powell, Davenport and Morgan Wyckoff (Washington Court House, Ohio/Miami Trace) who all finished with four. Katchen and Kelly Becquet (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) totaled three each.

Defensively, the Bison held Chatham to just six kills in the match. They also totaled 22 digs in the victory, led by Becquet's nine.

The Bison will be back in action on Thursday, October 16, when they return home to take on Washington & Jefferson and Thiel. The contest with the Presidents is scheduled fort a 3 p.m. start, while the game with the Tomcats is slated for a 7 p.m. start time.
