Bison Volleyball Grabs a Pair of Conference Victories

October 4 - LATROBE, Pa. - The Bethany College Volleyball team (14-6, 8-1 PAC) kept their hold on second place in the conference with victories of Waynesburg University and Saint Vincent College on Saturday. The Bison upended the Yellow Jackets 3-0 before defeating the host Bearcats, 3-1.

In game one, the Bison made quick work of Waynesburg, defeating the Yellow Jackets in straight sets by scores of 25-8, 25-13 and 25-6.

The Bison offense was firing on all cylinders, as the Green & White hit .404 in the match. Senior Lynsie Mandt  (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne e) led the way with eight kills and zero errors. Six different Bison notched at least four kills in the match. Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) finished with seven while Sumayyah Muhammad (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) totaled five in the win.

Defensively, Bethany held Waynesburg to a -.022 hitting percentage, totaling six blocks and 43 digs. McKenzie led the way with three solo blocks in the match, while senior Kelly Becquet (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) totaled a season high 16 digs. Libero Julia Mouch  (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) finished with 11 in the victory.

In game two, the Bison faced a tough task in the host Bearcats of Saint Vincent. The Green & White walked away with the 3-1 victory, taking the win by scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-22 and 28-26.

In the victory, McKenzie led the way with a season high 25 kills. Dylana McKenzie (Hopwell, Ohio/West Muskingum) also had a big game, posting 16 kills in the win. Mandy finished the win with 11 kills while Arielle Sanders (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) finished with eight. Setter Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Mansfield) had a career game dishing out assists, as she completed the match with 60.

Defensively, the Bison received a total team effort as four different players notched at least 13 digs. Becquet led the way with 18 while Mandy finished with 16, notching her fourth double double of the year. Mouch totaled 13, as did Haley Santymire (Clifton, Va./Centreville).

With the two wins the Bison held on two second place in the PAC with on half of conference action completed. Bethany will open the second half of conference play with a home match against Grove City on Wednesday, October 8. Match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
