August 31 – MARIETTA, Ohio – The Bethany College men's soccer team (0-2) suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Piedmont College on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first half of play, although the Bison were able to manufacture seven shots.
The second half saw Piedmont take the lead 1-0, as Chris Keller converted a penalty kick in the 54thminute.
Piedmont extended their lead to 2-0 in the 79th minute and went on to defeat the Bison by the same score.
Bethany's offense had chances, as they registered 11 shots and three corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/Maidstone Grammar School) played well between the pipes, tallying eight saves.
Freshman Ryan Power (Sydney, Australia/Lisarow) led the way for the Bison offense, recording two shots. Senior Nick Turner (Huntington, W.Va./St. Joseph Central Catholic) and sophomore Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) also added a shot each.
The soccer squad will get back to the field on Wednesday, September 3, as they play host to Frostburg State in their home opener. Game time is set to start at 4:00 p.m.
