Sept. 20 - WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Bethany College volleyball program (10-4, 4-1 PAC) showed dominance on Saturday afternoon in Washington, taking victories over Westminster and Washington & Jefferson. The Bison didn't drop a set on the day, sweeping the Titans before taking three-straight sets over the host Presidents.
In the opening game, the Bison took care of business against Westminster by a 3-0 score. After taking the first set 25-19, the Green & White completed the sweep, taking sets two and three by identical, 25-16 scores.
In the win, Dakota and
Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) led the way, combining for 23 kills in the match. Dakota finished the match with 12 while her twin sister, Dylana, totaled 11 in the game. Their totals marked the 12th time in 13 matches that one of the two sisters have led the Bison in kills. Sophomore
Sadie Davenport (Newark, Ohio/Lakewood) also played well in the match, totaling nine kills.
Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Mansfield) orchestrated the offense well, finishing the game with 29 assists. She also totaled three service aces.
Defensively, the Bison were on top of their game, holding the Titans to a -.020 hitting percentage. The total marks the second time this year that an opponent has hit negative against Bethany. It is also the sixth time that the potent Bethany defense has held an opponent under a .100 hitting percentage. Junior
Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) was a big reason for the success, totaling 25 digs in the match.
In match number two, the Bison rode the momentum of the first sweep into a sweep of the Presidents. Bethany took down W&J by scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-14, to earn the program's tenth win of the season.
Davenport led the Bison offense in match two, finishing the game by tying a season high with 12 kills. McKenzie finished the contest with eight kills while sophomore
Arielle Sanders (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) notched seven kills while not committing an error.
Defensively, the Bison were once again in top form, holding the Presidents to a .000 hitting percentage. Mouch finish with 26 digs, giving her 51 in the span of just the matches.
The Bison will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 27 when they travel to Marietta, Ohio, to take on Ohio Athletic Conference foes Heidelberg and Otterbein. The action is set to begin at noon.
