Sept. 27 – MARIETTA, Ohio – The Bethany College women's volleyball team (10-6, 4-1 PAC) dropped a pair of non-conference matches in the BSN Sports River City Volleyball Classic hosted by Marietta College on Saturday. The Bison dropped their first match to Heidelberg University (25-23, 25-15, 25-18), before falling 3-1 against Otterbein University (25-17, 25-20, 25-15, 25-17) in the second game.
In Bethany's first match of the day, the offense was led by the duo of sophomore twins Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio /West Muskingum) and Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio /West Muskingum). They finished with 13 and 12 kills respectively and were the driving force for the Bison. Junior Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio /Madison Mansfield) also flashed her ability, logging 18 assists.
Defensively, the Bison received star efforts from junior Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and sophomore Sadie Davenport (Newark, Ohio /Lakewood). Mouch registered a team-high 16 digs, while Davenport tallied seven.
In game two against Otterbein, the Green & White's offense was once again led by Dakota McKenzie and Lauber. The 6-3 outside hitter, racked up 15 kills for the Bethany attack. Lauber amassed 30 assists from her setter position. Defensively, Mouch was at it again, logging 15 digs and continuously displaying her talent.
At the end of the day, Mouch was recognized for her outstanding play, being named the Co-Defensive Most Valuable Player sharing the honor with Marietta's Chloe Janson.
The Bison will hit the court next on Tuesday, Sept. 30, as they travel to Grove City, Pa for a battle with conference foe, Grove City College. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m.
