NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 28) – The Bison were defeated 67-60 by Westminster Saturday night in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup.

The Bethany College women's basketball team falls to 8-4 in the PAC, 10-9 overall. Meanwhile, the Titans improve to 8-11 overall, 3-9 in league play this season.

Sophomore guard Sammie Weiss (Avella, Pa./McGuffey) led the team with 23 points, while junior forward Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) registered a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds, matching a career-high. Junior guard Ashley Duthie (Madison, Ohio/Madison) added 15 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

The Bison missed each of their first five shots from the field, allowing Westminster to open the game with an 11-3 lead over the first five minutes. Bethany controlled the quarter at that point. Duthie buried a three pointer to start a run of 17-straight points to close out the first quarter and give the Bison a 20-11 advantage.

The Titans rallied back in the second quarter with a 12-5 run over the first four minutes to trim the Bison lead to two, 25-23, but Bethany maintained the lead throughout the quarter and took a 31-26 into halftime.

The Bison led 33-28 after the first minute of the second half when Westminster took control. The Titans used a 12-2 spurt to take a 39-33 lead with just over three minutes in the third quarter. Bethany pulled back within one, 42-41, in the final minute, but the Titans entered the fourth quarter with a 45-41 lead.

Westminster started the final period with an 11-5 run, limiting the Bison to just 2-for-7 shooting in the process, to take a 56-46 lead with about six minutes left in the game. Westminster held onto the lead for the remainder of the game to pick up the win.

Five players scored in double-figures to lead the Titans, led by freshman Emily Fromknecht with 17 points.

The Bison return home on Wednesday, February 1 when they host national-power Thomas More at 6 p.m.
