BETHANY, W.Va. (Dec. 2) - The Bethany College women's basketball team suffered an 89-46 loss at the hands of No. 10 Thomas More Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play inside the Hummel Field House
The Bison fall to 1-5 overall, 1-1 in league play. Meanwhile, the Saints, ranked No. 10 in the most recent D3Hoops.com Poll, improve to 3-0 in the PAC, 6-1 overall.
Senior forward Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds (six offensive) in the win.
The two teams traded three-point shots to open the game tied at 3-3 until the 7:25-mark of the first quarter. Thomas More opened up a 12-5 lead over the next five minutes, but baskets by Daugherty and freshman Haylie Glass (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) brought Bethany within three with 2:22 left in the opening period. The Saints reestablished their lead with a 7-2 spurt to close the quarter ahead 19-11. Thomas More continued to build its lead in the second quarter and would take a 52-29 lead into halftime.
The Saints defense prevented the Bison from mounting any rallies, holding Bethany to just 17 second half points on 5-of-28 (18 percent) shooting from the field to comfortably earn the victory.
Four Thomas More players scored in double-figures, led by Abby Owings who tallied a game-high 21 points in the win. The Saints shot 15-of-28 (54 percent) from three-point range in the game.
Bethany will look to bounce back on Wednesday, December 6 when they travel to Waynesburg for a PAC game at 5:30 p.m.
