DEFIANCE, Ohio (Sept. 3) - Despite a game-tying goal by junior Lexie Metz (Frostburg, Md./Mountain Ridge) in the 66th-minute, the Bethany College women's soccer team was dealt a 2-1 loss in overtime by Defiance at the Purple & Gold Classic Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jackets got on the board early, scoring in the 7th-minute of the contest.
- Freshman goalkeeper Maria Concha Vazquez (Queretaro, Mexico/Thomas Jefferson) limited the Bison deficit to one heading into halftime with with four first half saves.
- Bethany knotted the match at 1-1 in the 66th-minute when a shot by freshman Riley Meyers (Dubois, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) rebounded off of the Defiance goalkeeper right to Metz, who drove home the equalizer for her first-career goal.
- The two teams played out the final 24 minutes without another goal, sending the match into an extra session.
- The Jackets ended the match less than three minutes into overtime with an unassisted game-winning goal.
MATCH NOTES
- Concha Vazquez made six saves in the loss.
- The Jackets attempted 20 shots (eight on goal), compared to the Bison who attempted nine (four on goal). Each team had three corner-kick oppertunities.
- Defiance was whistled for 16 fouls in the contest, while Bethany was charged with only nine.
