Women's Soccer: Bethany Dominates in First Victory of the Season

Beaver Falls, Pa. – Bethany College women's soccer opened up the 2021 season with strong offensive play against Penn. State-Beaver, with a 13-0 win Thursday evening. The game saw 42 shots with 41 coming from the Bison. With tonight's win, it marks the first time the Bison have won a season opener since the 2015 season (Marietta, 3-2).

THE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Nia Coates and freshman Mary Marshall led the Bison with three goals apiece. Marshall added an assist to her stat line taking 11 shots and 10 on goal
  • The Bison had eight different scorers; three of those scoring 2+ goals
  • Senior Lauren Hillard scored her first career goal at the 62:16 mark and registered her second goal at the 76:11 mark
  • The Bison dished out six assists, led by freshman Kaitlin Pickett with two assists

BY THE NUMBERS

  • 0 – The Bison registered their first shutout since 2018 (Bethany 10, PSU-Beaver 0)
  • 1 – The Green and White held the Lions to just one shot in the game
  • 4 – There were four Bison who played the full 90 minutes (Corinne Grabow, Ava Lee, Lauren Hillard, Cierra Turner)
  • 30 – the Bison took 30 shots on goal

WHAT'S NEXT?

Bethany travels to Defiance for the Purple and Gold Classic this weekend. The Bison will face Rochester (Mich.) on Saturday at 1 pm and will take on host Defiance on Sunday at 11 am.
