Football Surges in Second Half, Defeated by Saint Vincent

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College football team fell to Saint Vincent (Pa.) College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game by a final score of 57-35 on Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium. 

Bethany (0-5, 0-3 PAC) Leaders

  • Junior All-PAC quarterback Brett Phillips (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) threw for a career-high 403 yards on 25-for-40 passing with one touchdown and also ran for 104 yards
  • Freshman running back Carlos Cardoza (Greeley, Colo./Greeley Central) scored three of the Bison's five touchdowns with 38 yards rushing
  • Sophomore receiver Jermain Beersingh (Miami, Fla./Hialeah Senior) had 10 catches for 103 yards while also picking up 122 yards as Bethany's return man
  • Sophomore receiver Jacob Burns (Charleston, W.Va./Herbert Hoover) also picked up a career-high 137 yards through the air with seven receptions 
  • Senior All-PAC defensive end Amarion Williams (Miami, Fla./South Dade) led the Bison defense with eight tackles including 1.5 sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss
  • Junior linebacker Charlie DiSaia (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) contributed six tackles while freshman linebacker Isaac Swauger (Wheeling, W.Va./John Marshall) added five including four solos
  • Ssenior linebacker Elijah Moffatt (Atlanta, Ga./New Manchester), sophomore defensive back Devan Colson (Weirton, W.Va./Weir), and freshman defensive back Nickolas Rispa (Homestead, Fla./South Dade) each recorded a pick for the Green and White defense
Saint Vincent (2-3, 1-2 PAC) Leaders
  • Junior quarterback Jake Phillips completed a game-high four touchdown passes while throwing for 300 yards on 17 completions
  • Sophomore running back Julian Walker picked up 140 yards on the ground on 21 rushes with two touchdowns
  • The PAC's best receiver, junior Chris Downs had eight receptions for 166 yards and three touchdowns while junior Keegan O'Brien added 104 receiving yards on four receptions and one touchdown
  • Junior defensive back Robbie Labuda and sophomore linebacker Nathan Parker led the Bearcat defense with 10 tackles and nine tackles, respectively

  • 12:40 - Cardoza put the Green and White on the board with a two-yard touchdown carry (Sophomore kicker Caden Langley (Wellsburg, W.Va./Brooke) kick good)
  • 6:45 - Cardoza hammered it home again from the one-yard line (Langley kick good)
  • 3:29 - Phillips escaped the Bearcat pressure and found junior receiver Jkobe Jones (Seffner, Fla./Seffner Christian) open in the endzone (Langley kick good)
Fourth Quarter (SVC 57-35)
  • 5:22 - Phillips took it in himself from the six-yard line for his first score of the day (Langley kick good)
  • 0:58 - Cardoza capped off his best performance of his young career with a third rushing touchdown (Langley kick good)
The Bison are back in action Saturday, October 18 as they host a Presidents' Athletic Conference game against Hiram (Ohio) College at 1 p.m. on Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium.
