SPOKANE, Wash. - The Bethany College men's basketball team fell to Whitworth (Wash.) University by a final score of 94-72 in a non-conference inside Whitworth Fieldhouse.
Bethany (0-2) opened their trip to the West Coast with a stop in Spokane to take on Whitworth (2-0) marking the first ever meeting between the two programs. Each team put up a big first half, but the Bison were not able to keep up with a 15-2 run by the Pirates out of the half and ten straight down the stretch. The Green and White still have two games remaining in their West Coast trip as the squad still searches for their first win of the season.
Bethany Leaders
- Sophomore forward Jayden Jackson (Columbia, S.C./A.C. Flora) posted his second straight double-double finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds: both game highs
- Senior guard Ryan Reasbeck (Washington, Pa./Wheeling Central Catholic) lit up the Pirates with 21 points including five threes and eight rebounds
- Senior guard Co Rose (Odessa, Texas) finished with a statline of 13 points, five assists, four steals, and two rebounds
- Sophomore guard Bryson Bishop (Dayton, Ohio/Stebbins) tallied eight rebounds
- Graduate Academic All-PAC guard Troy Hixson (Grove City, Ohio/Bishop Ready) scored seven points and added five boards
Whitworth Leaders
- Senior guard Ben Nyquist led the team with 20 points
- Senior forward Ty Edwards tied a game-high 10 rebounds
- Senior forward Stephen Behil assisted four times and added seven rebounds
First Half (Whitworth 49-43)
- Reasbeck drained all five of his threes in part of his 19-point first period
- The Bison took a 20-11 lead for their largest lead of the day with 12 minutes left to play
- Freshman guard Semaj Marshall (Washington, D.C./Parkside) converted his first field goal as a Bison
- The Green and White owned the boards with 24 rebounds including eight offensive to the Pirates' three
Second Half (Whitworth 94-72)
- Jackson scored 11 in the second straight half while recording seven of his 10 rebounds on the day
- Rose posted three assists and three of his game-high five steals
- Sophomore guard Koen Sartin (Princeton, W.Va.) scored his first collegiate points with a pair of free-throws
The Bison are back in action on Saturday, November 15 as they travel to Walla Walla, Washington to take on Whitman (Wash.) University in a non-conference game at 5 p.m. in the Sherwood Athletic Center.
