Women's Soccer Drops PAC Opener to Grove City

BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College women's soccer team fell to Grove City (Pa.) College by a final score of 8-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener on Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium. 

Bethany (1-5, 0-1 PAC) Leaders
  • Senior midfielder Shunnye Christopher (Bathlodge, Antigua/Christ the King) took four shots and scored her team-leading third goal of the season for seven points on the year
  • Junior All-PAC forward/midfielder Jordan Palmer (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) took a game-high five shots with three on goal
  • Junior All-PAC forward/midfielder Brionna Bash (Niles, Ohio/Niles McKinley) and senior forward Monica Bird (McKinnon, Antigua/St. Anthony's Secondary School) each took two shots for the Bison
Grove City (2-4-1, 1-0 PAC) Leaders
  • Freshman forward Lauren Muhanna took three shots on goal while scoring two goals and adding an assist
  • Junior midfielder Hannah Plunkard also scored twice on three shots and two shots on goal
  • Junior goalkeeper Maddie Mills saved seven of eight shots on goal that she faced
First Half (Grove City 3-1)
  • 13:40 - Junior midfielder Tori Stevenson struck first for Grove City with an unassisted goal
  • 20:16 - Muhanna and junior defender Meghan Tischler added two to the Wolverine lead just 30 seconds apart
  • 31:06 - Christopher played a deflection off of her chest and then poked it over the keeper for a Bison goal

Second Half (Grove City 8-1)

  • Junior All-PAC goalkeeper Hope Fair (Dunnville, Ontario/Lakeshore Catholic) faced 15 shots and made five of her game-high nine saves on the day
The Bison are back in action on Saturday, September 27 as they travel to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania for a Presidents' Athletic Conference game against Waynesburg (Pa.) University at 4 p.m. at John F. Wiley Stadium.
