STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - The Bethany College women's basketball team defeated the Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio) by a final score of 80-61 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at Finnegan Fieldhouse.
Bethany (8-6, 3-2 PAC) Leaders
- Senior Academic All-PAC forward Kaedlee Potter (Barboursville, W.Va./Cabell Midland) had another big game finishing with 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists, an assist, and a block
- Graduate All-PAC guard Lindsey Garrison (Triadelphia, W.Va./Wheeling Park) led the team in scoring with 18 points, in assists with four, and in steals with two
- Sophomore guard Ella Simpson (Morgantown, W.Va./University) was named the PAC Sports Network Player of the game after contributing 15 points, four rebounds, a block, and a steal to the Bison's victory
- Freshman guard and PAC Newcomer of the Week Lindsey Best (Rayland, Ohio/Martins Ferry) continues to own the glass with eight rebounds against the Barons while also scoring 11 points
- Sophomore guard Jewel Hardison (Baltimore, Md./New Town) made the most of her time on the floor with six points and three rebounds
Franciscan (3-11, 0-5 PAC) Leaders
- Junior forward Maria McCallen scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds
- Graduate guard Jazzlyn Melnyk finished with a 14-rebound, 13-point double-double and added four steals
- Sophomore guard Abbigail Jannuzi was the third Baron in double-figures with 12 points
First Quarter (Bethany 26-20)
- The Bison and Barons had a shootout as Bethany converted on 60% of its baskets led by Simpson with 10 points while Franciscan shot 52.9% from the floor
- Sophomore guard Shaelyn Anthony (Surprise, Ariz./Shadow Ridge), Potter, and Best combined for eight of the Green and White's nine rebounds
Second Quarter (Bethany 43-31)
- 10 of the Bison's 17 points were scored in the paint
- After Franciscan made it a one-possession game with just under seven minutes left in the half, the Green and White went on a 16-4 run down to the final minute
Third Quarter (Bethany 59-44)
- Senior Academic All-PAC guard Taylor Dusenberry (Dilliner, Pa./Mapletown) registered a block in just her second game back from injury
Fourth Quarter (Bethany 80-61)
- The Bethany bench scored 14 of the team's 21 points to outscore the Franciscan bench 24-2 on the night
- Eight different Bison scored in the final period including Hardison scoring all six of her points
The Bison are back in action on Saturday, January 17 as they host a Presidents' Athletic Conference game against Thiel (Pa.) College at 1 p.m. on Joe Kurey Memorial Court inside Hummel Fieldhouse.
