Women's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight in OT Thriller Versus Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Bethany College women's basketball team defeated Geneva (Pa.) College in overtime by a final score of 86-82 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at Metheny Fieldhouse.

Bethany (11-6, 6-2 PAC) Leaders
  • Senior Academic All-PAC forward Kaedlee Potter (Barboursville, W.Va./Cabell Midland) finished with a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double with four blocks coming in clutch for the Bison down the stretch
  • Graduate All-PAC guard Lindsey Garrison (Triadelphia, W.Va./Wheeling Park) hit the Green and White's only three of the day and finished with 14 points and four rebounds
  • Sophomore guard Ella Simpson (Morgantown, W.Va./University) set another career-high with 19 points as she also grabbed nine rebounds, recorded four steals, and blocked three shots against the Golden Tornadoes
  • Freshman guard and PAC Newcomer of the Week Lindsey Best (Rayland, Ohio/Martins Ferry) tallied a team-best four assists and scored seven points
  • Sophomore Academic All-PAC guard Addy Blazer (Hanoverton, Ohio/United Local) was the second Bison to fall one rebound short of a double-double, but finished with a statline of 12 points, nine rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and two assists
  • Junior Academic All-PAC forward Kate Botti (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) also posted her first double-double of the season and the sixth of her career with 12 rebounds and 11 points while blocking four shots
Geneva (6-11, 3-5 PAC) Leaders
  • Senior guard Emily Garvin fell a steal short of an extremely rare quadruple-double after recording 30 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists, and nine steals
  • Freshman forward Aizlyn Thompson added 19 points and five steals for Geneva
  • Junior guard Regan Kerr also reached 10 rebounds and had four steals
First Quarter (Geneva 23-12)
  • Bethany's 37.5% shooting percentage was deadlocked with the Golden Tornadoes' 38.5%, but Geneva put up nearly twice as many shots 
Second Quarter (Bethany 39-37)
  • After trailing 27-16, the largest deficit of the day, the Bison went on an 18-3 run including 14 straight points to take the lead into the half
  • Blazer led the Bison to a 19-rebound first half as she finished with five of her seven first-half boards
Third Quarter (Bethany 59-53)
  • Geneva scored eight straight points out of the half to regain the lead, but the Green and White would go on another run of their own with seven straight points
  • Bethany outscored the Golden Tornadoes in both points off the bench (9-0) and points in the paint (14-10)
Fourth Quarter (Tied 71-71)
  • Potter scored the game-tying bucket with 45 seconds remaining, and then came up with a clutch block on the other end to set up one last shot for the Bison
  • Simpson's game-winner attempt went around the rim and out to send Bethany to their first overtime of the season
Overtime (Bethany 86-82)
  • The overtime period featured five lead changes with Potter, Simpson, and Best all making go-ahead baskets in the game's final two minutes
The Bison are back in action on Wednesday, January 28 as they travel to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to take on Saint Vincent (Pa.) College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at 5:30 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center.
