Wenger Forces Program-Record Eight Caused Turnovers, Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest to Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio - The Bethany College women's lacrosse team fell to Muskingum (Ohio) University by a final score of 20-10 in a non-conference game at the Bullock Health and Wellness Complex.

Bethany (1-1) Leaders
  • Senior All-PAC defender and PAC Defensive Player of the Week Emily Wenger (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) recorded a career-high seven points with five goals and two assists while leading the team in ground balls with 10, in draw controls with eight, and in caused turnovers with eight which marks a new program single-game record
  • Junior Academic All-PAC midfielder Tatum Severe (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) tallied two goals and two assists along with three draw controls, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers
  • Junior midfielder Catharina Recabeitia (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Escuela Normal Superior-Vicente Fatone) scored two goals in her second straight game where she also picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers
  • Junior defender/midfielder Kamora Figueroa (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) scored her first goal of the season and added a ground ball
  • Senior defender Janez Matthews (Annapolis, Md.) finished with four draw controls, three caused turnovers, and two ground balls
  • Attack Grace Schweickert (Hiram, Ohio/Crestwood) made one assist for the Bison offense
  • Senior Academic All-PAC goalkeeper Madison Wagoner (Morgantown, W.Va./University) made one save while sophomore goalkeeper Kyleigh Craig (Woodbridge, Va./Charles J. Colgan) made one
Muskingum (2-2) Leaders
  • Senior midfielder Maria Decaminada had a game-high six goals and one assist
  • Senior defender Kasi Tully led the team with five ground balls
  • Freshman goalkeeper Izzy Oxenham made four saves in goal for the Fighting Muskies
First Quarter (Muskingum 6-2)
  • 5:18 - Severe got the scoring started for the Bison with an unassisted goal
  • 0:46 - Wenger scored just before the end of the period on a free position attempt
Second Quarter (Muskingum 11-4)
  • 11:18 - Severe found Recabeitia for the man-up goal
  • 6:58 - Wenger took it herself to make it two goals on the night
Third Quarter (Muskingum 16-9)
  • 11:19 - Wenger completed the hat trick
  • 9:57 - Recabeitia found the back of the net again thanks to an assist from Wenger
  • 6:12 - The Bison took advantage of another extra-man opportunity as Wenger assisted Severe
  • 4:49 - Figueroa's first goal of the season cut into the Muskie lead
  • 0:15 - Wenger and Severe connected on another Bethany goal 
Fourth Quarter (Muskingum 20-10)
  • 13:57 - Schweickert recorded an assist in her second straight game as she set up another Wenger goal
The Bison are back in action on Saturday, February 28 as they host a non-conference matchup against La Roche (Pa.) University at 1 p.m. on Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium.
