BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College women's lacrosse team defeated La Roche (Pa.) University by a final score of 9-7 in a non-conference game on Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium.
Bethany (2-1) Leaders
- After setting the program's single-game draw controls and caused turnover records earlier this season, senior All-PAC defender and PAC Defensive Player of the Week Emily Wenger (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) set a new single-game record for ground balls with 11 and broke her own record with nine caused turnovers against the Redhawks as well as scoring the game-winning goal
- Junior Academic All-PAC midfielder Tatum Severe (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) posted her second five-goal game of her career needing only six shots on goal to do so while also picking up three ground balls and causing two turnovers
- Senior Academic All-PAC defender Alena Arbogast (Morgantown, W.Va./University) added four ground balls for the Bison defense
- Senior Academic All-PAC midfielder Lexie Reid (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) caused three turnovers, scooped up two ground balls, and scored her first goal of the season
- Junior Academic All-PAC midfielder Ally Barclay (Nashport, Ohio/Tri-Valley) added a goal and one ground ball
- Senior defender Grace Schweickert (Hiram, Ohio/Crestwood) has now assisted in all three games this season as she also recorded two ground balls
- Senior Academic All-PAC goalkeeper Madison Wagoner (Morgantown, W.Va./University) got the win in goal while sophomore goalkeeper Kyleigh Craig (Woodbridge, Va./Charles J. Colgan) made a team-high five saves
La Roche (2-1) Leaders
- Sophomore attack Alecia D'Urso tied a game-high five goals with three ground balls
- Junior midfielder Kiki Nemcek led La Roche with five ground balls and five draw controls
- Senior goalkeeper Juliana Hornikel made eight saves in goal
First Quarter (La Roche 2-1)
- 8:56 - Severe put the Bison on the board first with an unassisted goal
Second Quarter (Tied 4-4)
- 5:20 - Severe scored her third straight goal in the period to tie things at four
Third Quarter (La Roche 6-5)
- 1:17 - Reid corralled the pass from Schweickert and scored a much-needed goal for the Bison
Fourth Quarter (Tied 7-7)
- 7:30 - Wenger found Barclay wide open to cut the Redhawk lead back to one
- 5:56 - Severe scored her fifth goal of the day
Overtime (Bethany 8-7)
- 4:49 - Wenger won the draw control and took off to score the walk-off goal just 11 seconds into the extra period
The Bison are back in action on Saturday, February 28 as they host a non-conference matchup against La Roche (Pa.) University at 1 p.m. on Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium.
