PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Bethany College women's basketball team defeated Chatham (Pa.) University by a final score of 74-67 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game in the Athletic & Fitness Center.
Bethany (14-6, 9-2 PAC) Leaders
- Sophomore guard Ella Simpson (Morgantown, W.Va./University) dropped a career-high 25 points, which is the most any Bison has scored this season, on 10-for-18 shooting with nine rebounds. This marks Simpson's twelfth time in double-figures this season and the first 20+ point game of her career
- Graduate All-PAC guard Lindsey Garrison (Triadelphia, W.Va./Wheeling Park) scored 16 points and went a perfect 8-for-8 shooting from the charity stripe as she now meets the PAC's minimum requirement on free-throw percentage with a conference-leading 86.9% on the season
- Senior Academic All-PAC forward Kaedlee Potter (Barboursville, W.Va./Cabell Midland) recorded her second double-double of the season with a 14-rebound, 12-point performance, where she also made four assists and three blocks
- Sophomore Academic All-PAC guard Addy Blazer (Hanoverton, Ohio/United Local) led the team in steals with four and scored four points
- Junior Academic All-PAC forward Kate Botti (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) assisted a team-best five times and added seven rebounds and two steals
- Freshman guard and PAC Newcomer of the Week Lindsey Best (Rayland, Ohio/Martins Ferry) also reached double figures with 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and a block
Chatham (13-6, 6-5 PAC) Leaders
- Senior forward Madison Nereu led the team in points with 22, in assists with five, in steals with three, and in blocks with two
- Senior guard Julia Calvin added 10 points and tied a team-high five rebounds
- Senior forward Alyssa Laukus notched eight points and five assists
First Quarter (Bethany 26-9)
- The Bison's first-period fireworks were highlighted by 66.7% shooting from the field while the Cougars shot a mere 23.1%
- Simpson and Potter guided the Bison with nine points and eight points, respectively
Second Quarter (Bethany 40-25)
- Potter corralled five rebounds to finish with 12 in the first half
- Bethany's six points to start the half gave the Bison a 32-12 lead: their biggest lead of the day
Third Quarter (Bethany 52-44)
- Chatham went on a 14-4 run to make it a two-possession game late in the third quarter
Fourth Quarter (Bethany 74-67)
- The Bison sank their foul shots when it mattered most shooting 84.6% from the line with Garrison making four of them
- Blazer recorded the Bison's only two steals to finish with four on the night
The Bison are back in action on Saturday, February 7 as they host Grove City (Pa.) College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at 1 p.m. on Joe Kurey Memorial Court inside Hummel Fieldhouse.
