Wenger and McHugh Sweep May PAC SAAC Scholar Athletes of the Month

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Bethany College women's lacrosse senior Emily Wenger (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and baseball senior Ethan McHugh (Brilliant, Ohio/Buckeye Local) have been named the May Presidents' Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Scholar Athletes of the Month.

Each month, the SAAC groups at PAC member institutions are asked to nominate one male and one female student-athlete for PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month consideration based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Nominees must be varsity team members in their respective sport and in their junior or senior year. Scholar-Athlete of the Month nominees must also have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved within their campus communities.

Wenger earns PAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Month after appearing in all 17 games this season and making 15 starts. She led the team in most statistical categories including 102 ground balls to set a new Bethany women's lacrosse single-season record. Wenger broke the single-game ground balls record on three separate occasions this season and finished with a program-best 12 against Mount Aloysius on April 11. She also led the team with a program-record 67 caused turnovers and 87 draw controls in 2026. Offensively, Wenger assisted a single-season best 14 times and scored 34 goals with four in the free position to total a team-best 48 points. She also set the single-game record in points, assists, draw controls, and caused turnovers this season. Wenger was named the PAC Defensive Player of the Week on February 23 and March 2, and was named the PAC Midfielder of the Week on April 27. 

In her career, Wenger has appeared in 52 games and has made 46 starts. She holds the program's career record in ground balls with 222, in draw controls with 199, in caused turnovers with 134, and in assists with 29. Wenger has also scored 70 goals for 99 career points. She is a two-time All-PAC selection, an Academic All-PAC honoree, a four-time PAC Player of the Week, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. Academically, Wenger has earned a 3.78 grade point average as an environmental science major.

McHugh also earns the conference-wide accolade after helping lead the Bison in the PAC Tournament in the month of May where he recorded two hits, two RBI, three runs scored, and smoked one home run. On the season, he appeared in 27 games and made 18 starts where he batted .276 with 21 hits and 11 RBI. McHugh notched five doubles, one triple, and one home run as well as scoring 17 runs and stealing four bases as the Green and White's first baseman. He was also Bethany's representative on the PAC Baseball Sportsmanship Team. 

In his career, McHugh has appeared in 59 games and has made 26 starts. He has recorded 26 hits that include five doubles, a triple, and a home run for a .217 lifetime average. McHugh has also driven in 12 RBI and has scored 22 runs while stealing five bases. He was Bethany's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Male Scholar Athlete of the Month for April and is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. Academically, McHugh has earned a 3.72 grade point average as an exercise science major.
