MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Bethany College swimming and diving team opened the 2025-26 season at the West Virginia State Games hosted by West Virginia University at The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.
The Bison got the 2025-26 campaign underway as it competed at the State Games that included 168 swimmers from eight different teams throughout the State of West Virginia. Bethany had three individuals competing in events such as the men's and women's 50m freestyle, and the men's and women's 100m freestyle, and the men's and women's 100m backstroke landing the Bison seventh overall in the women's standings with 239.7 points and eighth on the men's side with 261.3 points. Placing first in both the State Games' men's and women's events was the host West Virginia with 598.6 and 595.1 points, respectively.
The Green and White were led by sophomore
JulieAnne Humpe (Yorkville, Ohio/Wheeling Central Catholic) who placed 15th out of 25 in the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:08.58. She also finished 23rd in the 50m freestyle with a time of 28.75 and 26th in the 100m freestyle with a time of 1:05.79. Overall,
Humpe finished 61st overall with 369.3 points across her three events.
Making their collegiate debuts were freshmen
Corbin Henry (Martinsburg, W.Va.) and
Jailyn Cline (Bellaire, Ohio/Saint John Central Academy).
Henry served as the lone representative of the men's team where he swam times of 26.71 in the 50m freestyle, 59.05 in the 100m freestyle, and 1:16.09 in the 100m backstroke finishing with 261.3 total points in his first-career meet.
Cline opened her career in the Green and White with times of 40.33 in the 50m freestyle, 1:36.36 in the 100m freestyle, and 1:55.50 in the 100m backstroke for a final tally of 110 points.
