CALIFORNIA, Pa. - The Bethany College swimming and diving team competed at the California University of Pennsylvania Winter Frenzy and the Vulcan Invite at Hamer Hall.
Bethany was back in action for the first time since November where the Bison took on four other teams while being the only NCAA Division III representative at the Frenzy. After the first day of competition, the women's team finished fifth with four points while the men's team finished third with six points. The women's events were won by Hillsdale (Mich.) College with 233 points while Frostburg (Md.) State University took the men's top place with 218 points.
Sophomore
JulieAnne Humpe (Yorkville, Ohio/Wheeling Central Catholic) led the way again for the Bison after finishing seventh overall in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:38.75 for four team points. She also competed in the 100-yard backstroke where she swam a 1:25.80 and finished 13th.
Also racing for the women's team was freshman
Jailyn Cline (Brilliant, Ohio/Buckeye Local) who swam in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle. In the 50-yard, Cline swam a 38.41 and then went on to swim a 1:32.27 in the 100-yard.
The men's team also competed in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles. Freshmen
Corbin Henry (Martinsburg, W.Va.) and
Adam Kotson (Flushing, Ohio/Linsly) finished with times of 26.89 and 31.25 in the 50-yard freestyle, respectively, to earn the team three points. The duo then swam times of 1:01.89 and 1:20.19 in the 100-yard freestyle giving the Bison three more team points.

On Day 2 in the Vulcan Invite, five swimmers were back in action as the men's team finished third with four points.
Henry only needed to swim in one event to bring in four points for the Bison after finishing seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.62, improving on his Friday time by .2 of a second.
Humpe and
Cline then represented the women's team for the second straight day.
Humpe competed in the 200-yard breaststroke, where she finished with a time of 3:07.02, and then swam a 1:13.16 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Meanwhile,
Cline took another crack at the 50-yard freestyle where she finshed two seconds faster than her performance on Day 1 of the Winter Frenzy.

The Bison are back in action on Saturday, January 24 as they host Senior Day at 3 p.m. in John J. Knight Natatorium before heading to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships on Wednesday, February 18 in Grove City, Pennsylvania in James E. Longnecker Competition Pool.
