WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Bethany College men's wrestling team fell to Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College by a final score of 29-26 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual in Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
Bethany (3-5, 1-2 PAC) got another chance to travel to Washington after being snowed out of the Jim White quad just two weeks ago setting up a highly-anticipated matchup with W&J (6-11, 4-1 PAC). The Bison came out swinging in search of their second conference win of the season, but ultimately fell one match short as the Presidents bounced back from their 34-12 loss in the night's first dual against Thiel by edging out the Bison 29-26.
Despite forfeiting the first match, back-to-back major decisions by freshmen
Harrison Spadoni (Gaitherburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and
Aván Rosado (Florence, S.C./South Florence) gave the Green and White an early lead in the dual.
Spadoni's five takedowns highlighted his 20-8 win with riding time at 133 while
Rosado's 13-5 141-pound victory included four takedowns.
The Bison then earned two forfeit victories by freshman
Jeremiah Stalling (Buckeye, Ariz./Buckeye Union) and
Jonathan Braun (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) split by two wins in favor of the Presidents to give Bethany a 20-18 lead heading into the final three matches. However, W&J would take both the 184-pound match and the 197-pound match to secure the dual victory.
That did not stop graduate heavyweight
Zach Kuneff (Martins Ferry, Ohio/Bridgeport) from taking care of business in the heavyweight bout, however, as he earned a quick pin over the Presidents' Albert Sherman for the Bison's third victory of the day.
The Bison are back in action on Thursday, February 5 as they travel to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to take on Saint Vincent (Pa.) College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual at 7 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center.
