HIRAM, Ohio - The Bethany College men's wrestling team competed in the 2026 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Hiram (Ohio) College in Price Gymnasium.
Bethany suited up for its first postseason appearance in the program's first year back as a varsity sport. The Bison had two top-three finishers, including
Jonathan Braun (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) at 174 and
Zach Kuneff (Martins Ferry, Ohio/Bridgeport) at 285. The Green and White finished with 23.5 team points to finish sixth at the championships while Saint Vincent College won the PAC title with 118.5 team points.
The squad's first big performance of the day came from the third-seeded
Braun, who, after falling in the 174-pound quarterfinals, won by fall to set up a chance to medal in the consolation finals. Going up against the number four seed Kayden Duke from Hiram,
Braun earned a 1:41 pin to secure third place, and an All-PAC honorable mention recognition.
Kuneff, also the No. 3 seed, had a very similar path after notching a 9-1 major decision and a 10-1 major decision in the first two rounds leading him to the heavyweight quarterfinals. After falling in a close 2-0 decision,
Kuneff bounced back with a 4-2 decision in the consolation semifinals setting up a meeting with teammate freshmanÂ
Antwon Bell (New Oxford, Pa.) in the third-place match. However, due to a
Bell medical forfeit,
Kuneff took home third and the Bison's second All-PAC honorable mention of the tournament
Bell fell in the first round of the heavyweight bracket, but rattled off three straight pins to earn him a spot in the consolation championships as he finished fourth overall after only one month of wearing the Green and White
Freshman
Aván Rosado (Florence, S.C./South Florence) also got a win at 133 as he won a 13-11 decision after dropping a match in the opening round. After the tournament,
Rosado was named to the PAC Sportsmanship Team.
Freshman
Jackson Hodges (Fairfield, Ohio/Hamilton) was the last Bison to bring home a win after a 12-4 major decision in the opening round of the 197 bracket.Â
Freshmen
Harrison Spadoni (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard),
Jeremiah Stalling (Buckeye, Ariz./Buckeye Union),
Antonio Christian (Lakeland, Fla./Auburndale), andÂ
Caleigh Moon (Sickerville, N.J./Eastside Cameron) also represented the Bison at the program's first crack at a conference championship in 55 years.
The NCAA Division IV Regional Tournament hosted by Ohio Northern University will take place on Friday, February 27 in Ada, Ohio at 10 a.m. in the ONU Sports Center.
