GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Bethany College men's golf team competed at the Denison Spring Shootout hosted by Denison (Ohio) University at the Denison Golf Club.
In the last tournament before the Presidents' Athletic Conference Spring Championships, the Bison fielded seven golfers to shoot two rounds against 82 golfers from nine different schools. Bethany finished 12th out of 16 in the team standings with a two-round score of 630 (+62). Otterbein (Ohio) University A team took first in the tournament with a four-player score of 579 (+11).
The Bison's best rounds of the day came from All-PAC junior
Jude Smith (Weirton, W.Va./Weir) who finished the Par-71 course with a score of 151 (+9) on the day. In Round 1, he fired a 76 (+5) with 10 pars and a birdie and followed that up with a round of 75 (+4) that included three birdies on his way to a team-best 20th-place finish.
Junior
Payton Hildebrand (Wellsburg, W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) led the Green and White in the first round by shooting a 75 (+4) with 10 pars and two birdies. He then recorded an 82 (+11) in Round 2 for a tournament score of 157 (+15) to place 39th overall.
Freshman
Jacob Bursey (Winchester, Va./James Wood) also had a consistent two rounds where he shot an 82 (+11) and a 79 (+8). He tallied three birdies on the day to finish 54th overall and third on the Bison with a two-round score of 161 (+19).
Rounding out the Bethany team score was sophomore
Nash Hays (Heath, Ohio) who also shot a 79 (+8) in the second 18 following an 83 (+12) in the first round. He posted three birdies on the day all of which came in his second round to help the Bison climb in the team standings.
Junior
Samuel Phillips (Charleston, W.Va./Herbert Hoover) finished the Shootout with a score of 166 (+24) including another round of 82 (+11) with one birdie in the team's first go-around.
Freshmen
Brayden Roberts (Franklin, Ky./Franklin-Simpson) and
Ian Longo (Winchester, Va./James Wood) both competed individually for the Bison with scores of 168 (+26) and 174 (+32), respectively.
Roberts had two birdies on the day and carded an 82 (+11) in the second round while
Longo's first round was his best with a score of 85 (+14).
The Bison are back in action on Friday, April 24 as they travel to Boardman, Ohio to compete at the PAC Spring Championships at 10:30 a.m. at Mill Creek Golf Course.
