BETHANY, W.Va. - The Bethany College women's track & field team competed in the Steemer Showcase hosted by Wittenberg (Ohio) University in the Steemer Center while select members of the women's track & field team competed in the Muskie Meet hosted by Muskingum (Ohio) University in the Bullock Health and Wellness Complex.
Bethany was back in action in their first split meets of the season as seven athletes qualified for the Steemer Showcase. In the Showcase, the Bison faced off against a mix of NCAA Division I, II, and III teams as well as schools from the NAIA as Cedarville (Ohio) University placed first in the team standings with 120 points.
All five of the Bison's throwers qualified for the Showcase including senior
Makenna Philson (Greenville, Pa.), freshman
Ariana Augustine (Claysville, Pa./McGuffey), sophomore
Marissa French (Reynoldsburg, Ohio), senior
Amelia Ferguson (Bakersfield, Calif./Highland), and freshman
Maisie Barrus (Hysham, Mont.).
Philson led the way in the shotput with a mark of 10.78 to finish 16th overall,
French threw a 9.79 to finish 29th,
Augustine threw a 9.29 to finish 43rd, and
Barrus and
Ferguson both threw a 8.27 to finish 50th and 51st.
In the weight throw,
Philson tossed a team-best 12.41 followed by
French and
Augustine with a 10.35 each,
Ferguson with a 10.11, and
Barrus with a 9.43.
In the track events, the Bison were represented by junior
Madison Donelson (Lanham, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) and freshman
Yakira Cunningham (Columbus, Ohio/Centennial).
Donelson finished the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.57 while also competing in the 60-meter dash prelims, and
Cunningham clocked a 1:14.87 in the 400-meter dash.
The rest of the Bison women's team to New Concord to compete in the Muskie Meet where Mount Vernon (Ohio) Nazarene University took first place with 164 points.
Junior
Mary Tracey (Clarksburg, W.Va./Liberty) and freshman
Azlyn Cates (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass) round out the Bison competitors for the weekend.
Tracey only competed in the one-mile run where she ran a time of 7:32.94.
Cates ran a 32.13 in the 200-meter dash and also took part in the 60-meter dash prelims.
The Bison are back in action on Friday, February 13 as they travel to Youngstown, Ohio to compete in the YSU Last Chance Indoor Meet at the Watson and Tressel Training Site.
