NEW WILMINGTON, PA. - Bethany College softball senior All-PAC shortstop Brooke Markland (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) and freshman first baseman Jenna Nolan (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) have been named the Presidents' Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week and the Newcomer of the Week, respectively.

Markland earns her second career PAC Hitter of the Week award after hitting safely in 11 of her 15 bats through four games last week. She opened the week by going 3-for-4 in Game 1 of the Bison's doubleheader with Thiel where she drove in a career-high five RBI with two doubles. Markland then went a perfect 3-for-3 in the second game with two RBI and capped off the week with four hits and four RBI including her first career home run to lead Bethany to a 12-10 victory over top-ranked Westminster.

This season, Markland has appeared in and started all 21 games where she is batting .400 on the year. She has recorded 30 hits including eight doubles, one triple, and one home run while driving in 22 RBI. Markland is also tied for the team lead in stolen bases with nine.

In her career, Markland has appeared in and started 129 games where she has a lifetime average of .340. She has tallied 130 hits that includes 32 doubles, four triples, and one home run. Markland has also driven in 91 RBI and has stolen 58 bases.

Nolan wins her second Newcomer of the Week accolade of the year after hitting 7-for-15 on the week after collecting a hit and an RBI Game 1 of the Thiel doubleheader and followed that with a 2-for-3 game with two RBI. Nolan's massive game at the plate came in Bethany's win over Westminster where she went 4-for-5 with a career-high five RBI including her first career home run. 

This season, Nolan has appeared in and started all 21 games for the Bison where she is batting .364 with 24 hits including four doubles and one home run. She has also recorded 19 RBI and has scored five runs.

The Bison are back in action on Thursday, April 9 as they travel to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to take on Waynesburg (Pa.) University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Waynesburg Baseball & Softball Complex.
