PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Bethany College men's track & field 4x100 relay competed at the legendary Penn Relays hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field.
The conference-leading Bethany 4x100 put Bethany on the map by racing at the Penn Relays which is the country's oldest and largest track and field competition that has been hosted annually since 1895. However, before heading to Philadelphia, the Bison competed at the Mount Union Classic to gear up for their big race on Friday. Bethany had six athletes at the Classic including the 4x100 relay team of freshman
Jamari Curlett (Erie, Pa./North East), freshman
Ziacheas White (Waycross, Ga./Ware County), junior
Shavel Lesley (Whitehall, Ohio/Whitehall-Yearling), and freshman All-American
Jason Ellman (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep). The foursome finished third with a time of 41.25 for the team's only medal of the day.
White,
Lesley, and freshman
Ja'Vonni O'hara (Waycross, Ga./Ware County) also ran in the 100-meter dash prelims at Mount Union while junior
Dave Rene (Boynton Beach, Fla./Lakewood) took seventh in the long jump with a distance of 6.73 meters.
On to Philadelphia.
Going up against some of the best relay teams in the nation including 13 NCAA Division I teams, the Bison were represented by
Curlett,
White,
Ellman, and junior
Caliyph McClinton (Pittsburgh, Pa./Neighborhood Academy) in the 4x100 College event. The Green and White sprinters finished twelfth out of 19 schools and ranked first among competing Division III schools with a time of 41.88 seconds. Out of 62 different institutions that ran across three separate 4x100 events at the Penn Relays, Bethany placed 38th for another solid finish on the national stage.
The Bison are back in action on Thursday, April 30 as they travel to Morgantown, West Virginia to compete at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at The Track & Field Complex at Mylan Park.
