WHEELING, W.Va. - The Bethany College men's golf team hosted the Bethany Spring Invitational on the Robert Trent Jones Course at Oglebay Park.
The Bison hosted their first home tournament since the fall of 2024 and showed out in front of the home fans. Bethany fielded two teams in the 38-player field as the Bethany A team took second in the team standings with a four-player score of 326 (+42) and the Bethany B team finished sixth with a score of 358 (+74) on the 71-par course. Fellow Presidents' Athletic Conference member Grove City (Pa.) College took first in the tournament with a score of 319 (+35).
Bethany had two golfers with a team-best score of 80 (+9) in All-PAC junior
Jude Smith (Weirton, W.Va./Weir) and junior
Samuel Phillips (Charleston, W.Va./Herbert Hoover). Both
Smith and
Phillips placed seventh overall and finished just one stroke out of a top-five finish.
Places 10 through 13 belonged to the Green and White as junior
Payton Hildebrand (Wellsburg, W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) represented Team A with a score of 82 (+11) and freshman
Brayden Roberts (Franklin, Ky./Franklin-Simpson) led Team B with an 11th-place finish with a score of 83 (+12). Sophomore
Nash Hays took 12th with an 84 (+13) to wrap up the Bethany A team score while freshman
Jacob Bursey (Winchester, Va./James Wood) carded an 86 (+15) to finish 13th.
Sophomore
Caleb Mouton (Denham Springs, La./Walker) finished close behind with a score of 87 (+16) to finish 15th marking the second-best outing for Team B.
Rounding out the Bison competitors were graduate
Troy Hixson (Grove City, Ohio/Bishop Ready) who shot a 92 (+21), freshman
Ian Longo (Winchester, Va./James Wood) who carded a 96 (+25), and sophomore
Lincoln Pablo (Tulalip, Wash./Heritage) who finished with a 99 (+28).
The Bison are back in action Monday, April 13 as they travel to Canonsburg, Pennsylvania to compete in the Peter C. Rossin Memorial Invitational hosted by Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College at Southpointe Golf Club.
